Tory Newmyer

Senior Director

Tory Newmyer brings two decades of experience reporting on the intersection of business and government to help clients tell their stories in Washington and beyond.

Prior to joining the firm, Tory spent seven years as a national business reporter at the Washington Post, focusing on economic policy, Wall Street and its regulators, and most recently the tumult of the cryptocurrency industry — including leading coverage of the Sam Bankman-Fried crypto fraud trial. While at the Post, he launched the “Finance 202” newsletter and made it a daily must-read among economic policymakers through his insightful coverage of financial markets, taxes, trade, and corporate governance.

Before his time at the paper, Tory wrote for Fortune for seven years, authoring cover stories and features on subjects from startups to presidential campaigns. A running theme of his coverage examined the rise of populism in the Republican party and the challenges it posed to corporate interests.

Tory began his career in Washington at Roll Call, chronicling the lobbying industry, campaign finance, and House Democratic leadership, after cutting his teeth as a local government reporter at the Chattanooga Times-Free Press.

Tory graduated from Columbia University with a Bachelor of Arts in American History. A native of Washington, D.C., he now lives in Bethesda, Maryland with his wife and two kids.
