Narrative Adds Administration Cybersecurity Communications Expert Avery Monsees as Director - Narrative Strategies

With Five New Hires, Narrative More Than Doubles Its Year-Over-Year Employee Count as Jack Turman Joins as Manager, Evelyn Humphrey Joins as Operations Manager, and Ben Bissen and Valeria Fernandez Join As Associates

Washington, D.C.Narrative Strategies announced today the addition of longtime public sector media relations professional Avery Monsees as Director. Monsees joins Narrative with nearly a decade of communications experience, most recently serving in the Biden administration at the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). Narrative also announced the hiring of CBS News’ Jack Turman as Strategic Communications Manager, Evelyn Humphrey as Operations Manager, and Ben Bissen and Valeria Fernandez as Strategic Communications Associates.

Avery Monsees joins Narrative from the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), where she served as Senior Advisor for Public Affairs, providing strategic counsel for numerous public affairs issues and leading the agency’s media relations operations. Before joining CISA, Monsees worked on Capitol Hill for several years, serving as Press Secretary for U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-DE) and a Legislative Aide for the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works. She earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and government from Loyola University New Orleans. 

Jack Turman arrives at Narrative from CBS News’ Washington bureau. At CBS News, Turman most recently served as a Capitol Hill Producer and Reporter, covering the Senate, reporting on major breaking events and the nuanced behind-the-scenes dynamics of Congress; he was also a campaign reporter during the 2020 presidential election cycle. Turman earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and communication studies from the University of Michigan and a master’s degree in public affairs with a concentration in public policy analysis from Indiana University.

Evelyn Humphrey comes to Narrative as Operations Manager from the office of U.S. Representative Betty McCollum (D-MN-04). Humphrey also interned for U.S. Representative Angie Craig (D-MN-02) and U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN). Prior to her work on Capitol Hill, Humphrey served as Organizing Director for Attorney General Keith Ellison’s (D-MN) re-election efforts. Humphrey graduated from Hamline University with a bachelor’s degree in political science and public health and a minor in business analytics.

Ben Bissen joins Narrative as a Strategic Communications Associate after most recently serving as an intern at the firm. Bissen has also served as an intern at the law firm of Holland & Knight, LLP, and in the office of then-House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD). Bissen earned a bachelor’s degree from George Washington University. 

Valeria Fernandez also joins the firm as a Strategic Communications Associate after serving as an intern. Prior to her time at Narrative, Fernandez interned at the Bank Policy Institute and earned a bachelor’s degree from George Washington University.
